It’s no secret that I’m a big fan of coffee (obviously!). But as much as I love to drink it, there are times when you need some extra creativity in order to enjoy your favorite beverage to the fullest as the mood may strike. And whereas summertime is perfect for ice cream-based coffee treats, fall offers a whole new world of possibilities, including some delicious twists on the classic brew. So whether you want to try something new or just stick with your normal routine (I won’t judge), these five ways you can enjoy coffee in the fall will keep your mornings warm and cozy all season long! Here are a few ideas for coffee drinks this fall.
Percolate some pumpkin-flavored coffee
I know, I know… It may seem a little clichéd, but pumpkin-flavored coffee is a seasonal favorite. It’s easy to make, and you can use your own homemade pumpkin puree or purchase pumpkin spice mix from your local grocery store. If you want to make the very best pumpkin spice latte at home, here are some tips for getting that “just right” cup of coffee:
- Start with quality ingredients. Use freshly ground whole bean coffee beans and whole milk or heavy cream for the best results.
- Be sure not to skip on the fat content of your dairy products! A good ratio is 1/4 cup heavy cream mixed with 2 tablespoons vanilla extract and 3 tablespoons sugar (or more if desired).
- Add cinnamon sticks or nutmeg while heating up your milk mixture; this will give it an extra kick of flavor without adding any additional calories or carbs!
Try a spiced coffee drink this fall
This was honestly a new one for me when we first moved to Honduras. Things like pumpkin spice coffee had not yet caught on in the States, so I was unaccustomed to people adding such distinctive flavors to their brew. One of the most popular additions in the area of Honduras where we live is allspice, and we have even now planted allspice trees on the property to provide an additional stream of revenue for the projects I oversee on behalf of EFM, such as the medical clinic and newly-added surgery center.
- Mix in some spices. Spices like cinnamon and nutmeg make a wonderful addition to any fall drink. If you’re feeling ambitious, try adding a pinch of salt or even brown sugar or maple syrup!
- Add some cream or half and half. This is best if you prefer your coffee sweeter, but if it’s too much for you, just use less sugar than usual.
Ice it, with a splash of apple cider
A few years ago, I would have been a bit skeptical of the idea of adding apple cider to coffee. Now, however, I’m not sure what I would do without it!
If you love the flavor of fall but don’t want to drink hot beverages, try making your coffee with apple cider instead. All you need is some fresh apple cider and water (or milk), then blend it together with your favorite dark roast ground coffee. You can also add spices like cinnamon or nutmeg for an extra kick!
Take you coffee on a walk through the crunchy leaves
It’s time to go for a walk through the crunchy leaves.
It’s fall, and that means it’s time to enjoy the crisp air with friends and family. The best way to do this is by taking your favorite coffee mug and heading out on a walk where you can see all of the beautiful colors in nature that come with this season. You can even bring along some friends or family members if you want to make an afternoon out of it!
Host a coffee and snacks party
Hosting a coffee and snacks party is a great way to bring your friends together. You can make it as casual or formal as you like, but either way, here’s what you’ll need:
- Determine the theme of your party. Is it going to be a themed party? Or just any old coffee party? Think about what kinds of things would appeal to your guests and pick something that reflects that. Maybe everyone brings their favorite kind of snack so everyone gets some good food in their stomachs before they start drinking too much caffeine! Whatever you decide on will add flavor to the event itself—so choose wisely!
- Find a location for where you’ll host this event (and whether or not it’s outdoors). If it’s an indoor space with plenty of room then feel free to invite more people than usual; but if there isn’t enough space for everyone who wants in on all this goodness then keep it small by inviting just those closest friends who won’t mind squeezing together uncomfortably close at times throughout the evening…or just go outside somewhere where there isn’t much room so everyone’s elbows have space to breathe 🙂
That’s the beauty of coffee, it’s versatile and can be made into a number of different delights. With a little creativity, you can build your favorite beverage into the perfect autumnal treat. The key is using creative thinking and some of your favorite autumnal foods and drinks as inspiration. Choose your favorite hand-picked coffee from our entire selection, and make this fall a season to remember!
